24/05/2010 - Road collapses under heavy lorry

A SEMI-trailer is placed precariously above a gas main in central Skegness, after a road collapse near to the busy Hildreds Centre.
Police and fire officers have responded by cordoning off a 50m area around the incident, which occurred at Briar Way shortly before 10.30am this morning, Monday, May 24.

A Netherlands-registered lorry under the flag of Klarenbeek Transport, has two of the six wheels of its cab presently disappearing into a hole.

Crowds of onlookers have gathered around both ends of the sectioned-off area, which is close to the Skegness markets, Skegness Working Man's Club, High Street and a learning academy.

Though disruptions have been caused to neighbouring businesses, there have not as yet been any evacuation orders.

The delivery of lifting equipment, needed to remove the vehicle, is not due until late afternoon
